New Satin Ribbon

LilacpurplesatinribbonL

We are finally getting our vast ribbon collection up into the shop!  Years ago, we'd dreamed and planned to introduce line of art and craft supplies to coincide with the quickly growing craft movement, and bit by bit we've been growing our inventory.  I'm happy to say we are now starting to release our offerings!

RoyalblueribbonL

One of the first things we've added is a beautiful double-faced satin ribbon in some rich solid colors.  To begin with, we have 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch, and 3/4 inch widths.  It is sold by the yard, so you can order as much or as little as you want!

Doublefacedsatinribboninorange

This ribbon is perfect for sewing, crafts, making hair bows, tying favor bags or bouquets, decorating for weddings, showers, birthdays, or holidays.

Yellowribbon

Shown here are several of the colors we have available so far, but keep checking the website, as I'm adding new items each week, sometimes even daily!  And if there is something you are looking for, just let us know! :)

Rochelle Quilts from VHC Brands

Pinkruffledquiltbyvhcbrands

If you are looking for a quick, updated look for your bedroom in the form of a gorgeous solid colored quilt, you are going to love all the 2016 new releases from VHC Brands (formerly Victorian Heart).  One of the many offerings is the Rochelle Collection.

Solidcoloredquilts

The Rochelle Collection is a line of solid colored bedding, perfect as a stand alone quilt or layered to create your own unique look.  The 100% cotton voile makes this a very soft quilt, and features 2 inch ruching strips, giving it a great texture.  Ruching is a form of gentle gathered pleating - soft and feminine without being frilly.

Rochellequiltsbyvictorianheart

Rochelle originated just a year or so ago with the introduction of their Bella Taylor Home line, and started out in just two colors - a very fashion forward and gorgeous neutral selection of a soft gray and milky creme.  Since then, they have released a few more colors with each catalog, and 2016 has been no exception.  Shown in this post are all the color currently offered:

Winter’s Light Series - Glittered Battery Tealight Candles

Glitteredtealightcandles

Hello!  Continuing with our Winter's Light Series, I'm bringing you another way to light up your January - our glittered battery tealight candles!

RedtealightcandleL

Perfect for your party, event, home, or holiday decorating needs, these battery tea light candles are coated with superfine, super sparkly glitter!  One of the great things about these candles (besides how pretty they are!), is that they have very minimal shed.  I LOVE glittered things.  I DON'T LOVE poorly adhered glitter.  It's no fun to shell out money for a nice looking product only to open it up and find it is half naked with most of the glitter in the wrapping.

BrightyellowbatterycandlesD

After glittering for many many years, I have come up with a method that produces a very well-adhered product.  In the rare event that your tealight gets a bald spot, you won't find glaring white underneath - I give my tealights 2-3 coats of paint in a color the matches the glitter to cover up that white!  Lastly, before shipping your item, I handle each tealight I made, giving it a very vigorous brushing and rubbing, to ensure everything is really stuck on there.  If it doesn't pass the test, it doesn't get shipped!

PurplebatterytealightcandleD

(I won't tell you that your tealight will never shed a drop of glitter - it is the nature of glitter, some of it will spread it's love a bit.  What I will tell you is that you won't get pools of glitter and naked candles. :)  )

NeonpinktealightcandlesD

Each candle measures 1-1/2 inches in diameter, and 1-7/8 inches tall, and has as a gentle flicker.  Turns on/off easily with a switch on the bottom.  They use a single CR2032 Lithium battery - one is included with each candle, and you can easily find replacements at drug stores, hardware stores, online, etc.  BUT - to make life a little easier for you, we toss in an extra "just in case" battery for free!  This means your candle will come with one battery already inside so it's ready to go, and you'll have an extra one just in case!

BluetealightcandlesL

Our battery candles are made to order, so keep that in mind if you are ordering for a special event.  I do keep a couple of each color on hand to ship as needed, but for the most part they are made as the orders come in.  While I aim to make them immediately upon order, I play it safe and tell you to expect 1-2 weeks for them to be made before shipping.

Mardigraspartydecorations

Great for weddings, birthday parties, halloween, Mardi Gras, sports parties, wedding or baby showers, Christmas, whatever you can think of!  Currently we have 11 colors available, but we plan do release more within the next few months.  You can find them all here!

We hope you enjoyed this week's edition of our Winter's Light series!  (You can read more about the series here).  Have a lovely week!! :)

Thoughtful Friday

Thoughtfulfriday1

Years ago, before the store, before children, I used to blog somewhat regularly.  One of my favorite posts I used to do was Thoughtful Friday.  A favorite blogger of mine at the time started it, and invited her readers to join in.  You can read about it here, but basically the idea was to share a photo and a quote every Friday just as something fun and/or inspirational to carry you through the weekend.  I used to search for quotes each week, but I decided to do something different this time.  Rather search for the perfect quote each week, I prefer instead to be inspired by a quote provided to me, that I can ponder on.

  Thoughtfulfriday2

My mother has given me the same date book every since since I was a junior in high school (I won't tell you how long ago that was), and one of my favorite things about it is that every page spread has a different "Quote of the Week" listed.  For this year, I decided I would use the quote provided in my date book as each week's Thoughtful Friday post.  I do not read them ahead of time, so each post will be as new to me as it is to you.  I'm really looking forward to it!

So without any further ado, here is our first week's post for 2016!

Winter’s Light Series - Hand-Poured Soy Candles (Vanilla)

Wrapping up the soy candle portion of our Winter’s Light Series (read about it here), today I am introducing our last  Soy Candle fragrance for this week…. Vanilla!

Vanillasoyjarcandles

One of our original candle fragrances, Vanilla is a classic scent welcoming to most noses.  We did a LOT of testing before settling on the perfect vanilla.  This one is a Madagascar vanilla with a hint of butter, chocolate and cream.  Good enough to eat, you just cannot to go wrong with a nice, warm, soft vanilla!

If you didn’t catch the earlier post explaining all about our hand-poured soy candles, here is a recap:

We have been making these for quite a few years now, hand-pouring them in beautiful Union, WA on Hood Canal.  We use 100% soy wax, not a wax blend.  Why soy?  Oh so many reasons.  First off, it makes a wonderful candle.  The wax burns at a lower temperature, so you get a longer burn time with soy over paraffin.  It will also withstand a heavier load of fragrance oil, so they are very highly scented.  We’ve had a single votive candle sitting in our car as an air freshener for going on 5 years now, and it still smells wonderful!  Soy is grown right here in America, so by choosing soy you are supporting American farmers, not to mention using a renewable resource, as paraffin is a petroleum product and not renewable.  If that isn’t enough, you can remove any leftover wax residue in your candles cups with soap and water!  What’s not to love here?

Soyvotive-cinnabunL

Currently, we are pouring standard-size votives, tealights, and an 8 ounce jar.  We do not use dyes in our wax, so the naturally creamy white color of the wax won’t compete with whatever your decorating palette you may have.  The votives fit in a standard-sized votive cup and will burn 10-15+ hours depending on how long it burns each time you light it (seems to burn longer overall if you keep it lit for a long time).  Tealights come in a clear plastic candle cup which can be placed out by themselves, or within larger hurricane candle holders or jars.  One tiny tealight will scent a whole room, and burn for about 6 hours!

Our jar candles have a classy, vintage-style look with their amber glass and black lids, reminiscent of antique apothecary containers.  Again, total burn time depends on how you light it, but our test candles burn for at least 70 hours (our tests burn on average 75-80 hours, but we say 70 to play it safe!).  Once you’ve burned the candle, the glass jar and lid are reusable for home storage!  Use for craft storage, cotton balls, herbs, vitamins, oil blends or creams, flavored sauces, bath salts, notions – whatever!  If you don’t want to reuse the jar, then please recycle. :)

Vanilla tealights, votives, and jars are in stock now!

We hope you enjoyed this introduction to some of our soy candles – we’ll release more scents as the year progresses, so just keep an eye on our website for more goodies to come! :)

Winter’s Light Series - Hand-Poured Soy Candles (Pumpkin Pie)

Continuing with our Winter’s Light Series (read about it here), today I am introducing our next Soy Candle fragrance…. Pumpkin Pie!

Pumpkinpiesoyjarcandles

Pumpkin Pie is hand-down our best seller for the autumn season, but also remains consistently popular year-round.  This pumpkin pie fragrance is buttery, butterscotch-y, and very VERY fragrant!  NOT a spiced fragrance, this scent mimics the pie itself rather than the spices – think pumpkin custard, strong and buttery, with notes of ginger and nutmeg.  When we had our physical storefront, we never bothered displaying these candles.  People would walk in the door and instantly ask for whatever that delicious smell was, so we just left these on the counter – we’d go through an entire batch of them per day some months!

If you didn’t catch the earlier post explaining all about our hand-poured soy candles, here is a recap:

Winter’s Light Series - Hand-Poured Soy Candles (Cloved Cranberry)

Continuing with our Winter’s Light Series (read about it here), today I am introducing our next Soy Candle fragrance….Cloved Cranberry!

Clovecranberrysoyjarcandles

Cloved Cranberry combines the crisp, fruity scent of ripe red cranberries with the warmth and spice of cloves, and a sprinkling of sweet sparkling sugar!  Wonderful for Christmas, of course (this was our best seller in December), but it doesn’t scream “holiday.”  Cloved Cranberry is a nice winter fragrance (our best-selling last month), having the warmth of spice, yet cool and fruity.

If you didn’t catch the earlier post explaining all about our hand-poured soy candles, here is a recap:

Winter’s Light Series - Hand-Poured Soy Candles (Birthday Cake)

Continuing with our Winter’s Light Series (read about it here), today I am introducing our next Soy Candle fragrance….Birthday Cake!

  HandpouredsoyjarcandlescakeL

Rich buttery vanilla cake smothered in frosting, our Birthday Cake will having you saying YUUUUUMMMMMM every time you light it!  Sweet and sugary, yet buttery and creamy with warm vanilla with a touch of almond.  Although we do not add dyes to our soy candles, Birthday Cake naturally turns a pale pretty pink over time, just like a sugary, frosted birthday cake!
