Come out for a night with the girls at The Weed Patch, just in time for Christmas!  There will be a goodie bag for everyone who comes in with a gal friend or two, a scavanger hunt with great prizes, some “Flash Sales”, great music, home baked treats, and for the duration of the event you’ll get to shop by twinkle light!  Come and join us for our first ever Annual Christmas Girlfriends Night Out.

Janene's Gingersnap Cookies

Gingersnaps are a staple of Christmas and Holiday entertaining, and for good reason!  Try these fantastic cookies at your next party - or just for the family!

The Directions:
  • Mix together thoroughly the shortening, sugar, and eggs.
  • Sift together and stir in flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.
  • Chill dough.  Roll into balls the size of small walnuts.  Roll balls in a mixture of 2 tbsp sugar and 2 tbsp cinnamon.  Place about 2” apart on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes (until lightly browned but still soft) in preheated 400F oven. 
  • Makes about 5 dozen 2” cookies.
The Ingredients:

1 cup soft shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups sifted flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp cinnamon

hese wonderfully scented decorations will add a beautiful touch of homemade Christmas to your home.

The Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Beat shortening and sugar together until light and fluffy, stir in molasses.
  • Sift the dry ingredients together. Stir them into shortening mixture in 3 parts alternating with a 1/4 cup of water each time. Dough will be stiff. Refrigerate overnight.
  • Cut dough into 3 pieces. Knead to warm dough slightly, then roll each piece out about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut cookie out with a cutter of your choice, such as a star, heart, bell, bird, or traditional ginger man and woman shape. Use a drinking straw to punch hole in ornament for hanging.
  • Place cookies on cookie sheet and bake 20 minutes, then turn oven off and let cool in oven.
  • Remove from cookie sheet and place on rack to dry for about 3 days to totally harden.
  • Hang these as is, or experiment with acrylic paints, gold leafing, and/or glitters, microbeads, or powders (brush on watered down glue in the areas you want the stuff to adhere, and sprinkle it on with a spoon). 
  • Seal with a few coats of acrylic based sealer in gloss or matte to give it extra protection.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup water
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
